Latest itunes version direct download3/19/2024 That really messed things up when it would not open my iTunes library, saying it had been created with a newer version of iTunes. I believe you may be correct about the redirect, because after I removed iTunes the first time after the problem with Outlook and downloaded iTunes, even though I'm using Windows 7 on a 64-bit computer, it downloaded and installed an older version. I am aware of the issue with using the older video card version, as the latest iTunes broke my sync with Outlook. I haven't tested yet on my one remaining XP box, but I suspect that may redirect to the 12.1.2 page rather than 12.2. The third of these - which is actually the 32-bit application with a 64-bit installer - should be used if you get a warning about video card incompatibility when you install the standard 64-bit version, but also may resolve issues with playback, QuickTime compatibility, and problems with some third-party applications (including Outlook).

Country blues tablature3/18/2024 In this lesson, Guitar World presents 20 country licks designed to teach you how to play authentic country guitar. As is the case with any style, the best way to get a grasp of country guitar is to listen to its most celebrated pickers past and present and learn some of their signature licks and playing approaches.Ĭheck out old-school country guitarists such as Atkins, Merle Travis, Hank Garland and Jerry Reed, acoustic bluegrass flatpickers like Clarence White, Doc Watson and Tony Rice, and modern electric country players such as Albert Lee, Brent Mason, Brad Paisley, Johnny Hiland, Keith Urban, Jerry Donanue and Vince Gill, to name a few. (By comparison, the rock-oriented approach to soloing involves finding a scale or mode that “agrees with” a chord and playing licks and patterns based on that scale.)Ĭountry guitarists will often strive to emulate the signature licks of fiddle, banjo or pedal-steel players, cleverly borrowing a variety of techniques and musical approaches from these instruments and adapting them to the guitar. Interestingly, country guitarists tend to approach soloing in a way similar to jazz musicians, often crafting licks that either melodically describe the underlying chord changes via arpeggio-based ideas or emphasize chord tones. Most players eschew the use of high-tech, high-gain amps or psychedelic effects and opt instead for a more “honest”-sounding bright-clean and/or “organically” overdriven tone with some spring reverb and compression. Now let’s try playing a simple phrase worked out over an alternating-thumb accompaniment with a C chord, an F chord, and a G chord:Įxcerpted from Alternate Tunings Guitar Essentials.Classic American-style tube amps, such as vintage Fenders, are the rig of choice for many country guitarists. Here’s one fingering for an octave and a half of the C-minor pentatonic scale in open position: Here are the voicings we’ll be using for C, F, and G:Īs you may know if you’ve done any single-note blues soloing with another guitar player or a band, one of the great beauties of the minor pentatonic scale is the way the same phrases seem to work over all three chords of a blues progression. We’ll stick with three basic open-position voicings for this lesson, since our emphasis is going to be on working out various licks and melodies over the I, IV, and V chords. From low to high, the tuning is: C G C G C E. Leave the G string where it is, raise the B string a half step to C, and leave the high E string alone. Bring the A string down a whole step to G and the D string down a whole step to C. To get into open-C tuning, tune the low E string down two whole steps to C. The basic idea is the same: strum all the open strings and you get a big fat chord form your IV and V chords by either barring at the fifth and seventh frets or make alternative voicings in the open position that may or may not have the root of the chord as the bottom note. If you’re at all familiar with open-D or open-G, you’ve got some reference points already for checking out open-C. Open C’s lower bass register and higher intervals on top make for some interesting voicing and single-note possibilities that are worth exploring, and it’s a flavorful alternative to the more familiar open-D and open-G tunings. In this lesson we’ll take a look at open-C tuning and start developing a countrified blues vocabulary that will work over an alternating-thumb bass. Of course, blues and country have been cross-pollinating for a good long time, whether the results are the relaxed lilt of Mississippi John Hurt doing an old murder ballad or Merle Travis squeezing out jazzy chord licks over a poppin’ two-beat feel. David Hamburger talks about the open-C tuning as a favorable alternative to the more familiar open-D and open-G tunings in this excerpt from Alternate Tunings Guitar Essentials.Īs guitar players we sometimes think of blues and country as being two completely different worlds, one thumpy and droney and shuffle-based, the other bright and sprightly and uniformly two-beat.

Together, they brought his vision of a round visually striking logo with red and blue separated by a lightning strike to life. Inspired by the shape and bold markings of a dual-colored freeway sign he passed on the road, Owsley teamed up with a friend and graphic designer named Bob Thomas. While on tour with the band in 1969, Owsley realized that they needed an identifiable symbol to spray paint on the band’s equipment so that it would be easily discernible when jammed next to other band’s gear backstage. As the first band to utilize trippy, brilliantly designed show posters and psychedelic light displays during their shows, from their inception, the Grateful Dead have expressed their unique message just as much through their visuals as through their sound.įrom the classic Steal Your Face to the terrapin to the dancing bears, there is a vast archive of artwork associated with the band, but today we’re starting with the first symbol to enter the Dead’s iconography: the 13-point lightning bolt. Curious about the creation of the Dead's first symbol? Then keep on reading.Īs fans of the band, you’ve probably heard of the group’s sound engineer and longtime friend, Owsley “Bear” Stanley. Sibelius 8 string quartet3/17/2024 It is not known whether it was ever actually performed (which is why the performance of the quartet during the Sibelius Weeks in Järvenpää, September 2002, was claimed to be the first public performance). The piano quartet in D minor from August 1884 is reminiscent of Mendelssohn. Following Lobe's teachings, Sibelius composed a piano quartet and a piano trio. If Sibelius really did wade through the book, he must have acquired a knowledge of musical theory that was exceptional for a youth of his age. In February 1884, Janne got hold of Johann Christian Lobe's work Lehrbuch der musikalischen Composition, which he called Compositionslehre in a letter to Uncle Pehr. In the early works critics have seen influences from the Viennese classical school. Erik Furuhjelm and Erik Tawaststjerna have studied the early sketches in detail. Sibelius wrote his earliest works to be played by family members. The extant trio is the first of Sibelius’s compositions that can be dated with certainty. "They are rather poor, but it is nice to have something to do on rainy days," he wrote. He disclosed that he had composed one trio and was working on another. The first mention of a composition can be found in a letter Sibelius wrote from Kalalahti, 25th August 1883. In the autumn of 1882 Sibelius joined a string quartet whose repertoire included quartets by Haydn. At the beginning of the summer Sibelius wrote to his Uncle Pehr that he was playing Kayser's études and duets with Anna Tigerstedt, the daughter of Theodor Tigerstedt, the municipal Officer of Health. In 1882 there was a rapid increase in the musicians who took part. Janne composed for piano and violin at a fairly early age, and I had to accompany him from the notes he had written down, which was not easy," Linda Sibelius later recollected. "We played together Janne played the violin, Kitti the cello, mother the piano or the harmonium. Their mother played the harmonium with the children. In 1881 Sibelius and his siblings had formed a trio in which Linda played the piano, Christian the cello and Janne the violin.
